The Help You Might Receive
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): If you see a CBT Therapist you will work together with them to identify unhelpful thoughts and behaviours and learn healthier skills and habits. You will be fully involved in planning your treatment and each session will involve discussion, explanation, and practice of skills and techniques. Often you will be required to practice those techniques in between sessions. Sessions usually last up to an hour.
Counselling: Counsellors aim to listen attentively, patiently and perceive the difficulties from your point of view which can help you to see things more clearly, possibly from a different perspective. Counselling is a way of enabling choice or change or of reducing confusion. It does not involve giving advice or directing a client to take a particular course of action. In counselling you can explore various aspects of your life and feelings, talking about them freely and openly in a way that is rarely possible with friends or family. Sessions usually last up to an hour.
Occupational Therapy: Occupational Therapists promote health and wellbeing through meaningful occupation. This means that you will work with an occupational therapist together to look at meaningful daily activities in your life which would improve the way you feel. Activities could include employment, volunteering, daily living skills and social activity. Sessions can be variable in length and can take place in a surgery, at home or out in the community.
Clinical Psychology: Clinical Psychology helps you to deal with more difficult problems which have been longstanding in your life. Often, people have tried other therapies first before going to see a Clinical Psychologist. Clinical Psychologists try a range of different approaches to see what fits best for you and then tailor the therapy accordingly. Sessions usually last up to an hour.
Primary Care Mental Health Practitioner: Primary Care Mental Health Practitioners work with you to find out exactly what you need from services both within what we have to offer and from what is available elsewhere within the county. They will work with you to bolster any coping skills you might have whilst ensuring that you can access the appropriate support you might need at the time that you come to us. Sessions can be variable in length.
Sessions are provided as close to the clients home as possible and within community settings such as the G.P practices and Primary Care Resource Centres.
