Coping with life's ups and downs

Bullying

Bullying is deliberately hurtful behaviour that is repeated over a period of time. This includes:

  1. Teasing, abusive remarks and name calling
  2. Threats and physical violence
  3. Damage to property
  4. Leaving pupils out of social activities deliberately
  5. Spreading rumors
  6. Upsetting mobile phone or email messages (sometimes called cyber bullying)

Continued bullying can make you anxious, irritable may result in you avoiding situations such as school, college or social activities. It can also affect progress with your studies. Most bullying is verbal, and increasingly this happens in un-moderated chat rooms or by instant messaging, or via text messages on mobile phones.

It is important to tell someone if this is happening to you. Show them the messages you have received and never respond to bullying messages. Make sure you do not give out your personal contact details and avoid putting photographs of yourself on the internet.
